I graduated from John Moores University with a BA(Honours) in Fine Art. I have a studio at the Bridewell Studios in Liverpool and have been working there for 22 years. I spent 14 years lecturing in Fine Art, and Art and Design while continuing my own studio practice and exhibiting. I have exhibited works in Liverpool and across the North West of England. I am now working full time as an artist and also run art classes for adults.
My work is abstract and inspired by landscape and natural environments, particularly in capturing fleeting moments that create visual drama, be it changing light, contrasting colour and texture or the effects of weather. The dramatic landscapes and skies of the Pennines, Northern Ireland and Snowdonia are the main inspiration for much of my work. I work mainly in oils on canvas but also create mixed media relief pieces, and drawings on paper using inks and varnish. Strong colour contrasts and use of texture are key elements I use in creating my oil paintings, drawings and mixed media pieces.
Travelling across the Pennines regularly I see the dramatic changes in the landscape during different seasons. This painting captures the vivid spring green that contrasts with the barren rocks. Framed ready to hang.
One of a series of six paintings done with the title word/inspiration stitched onto the canvas. On some of them the word is seen clearly but on others it is obscured within the artwork. Framed ready to hang.
